The second step is to check out last minute savings. Sometimes you just need to escape and airlines are always trying to fill up a plane so booking your flight last minute can net you a mighty savings in your search for cheap tickets. I would not recommend trying last minute deal searching around the holidays as the airlines tend to jack up the prices. But on the other hand you could be off to a destination that you would not have otherwise been able to visit.

The third tip is to not always put all of your eggs in the internet basket. Cheap tickets for quick weekend trips are not readily achieved by searching the internet. A lot of airlines do not publish some of their better deals and do not make them available to sites like Orbitz or Priceline. You may have to do some leg work and actually call the airline directly. The fourth step was sort of touched on earlier but applies in a little different manner. You can find cheap tickets by checking out auction sites online like Amazon, Deals, eBay and others. These are usually a crap shoot because finding airline tickets that are good that fit your needs can be somewhat difficult. You will sometimes get a goldmine though so it is always worth the look. You could possibly find a ticket to a destination you would not have gone to otherwise. Since bidding is not an exact science you can get extraordinary deals. Besides the auction sites you might also want to look into the local community boards like craigslist. This will, at the very least, ensure a local seller.

The last tip is to always be flexible. The more flexible that you are while planning your vacation or quick trip the better shot you have at purchasing cheap tickets. It goes without saying that if you travel during peak travel times your tickets will be a lot more expensive then if you book during the off season. Weekday travel is also less expensive then traveling on the weekend – especially if you leave midweek. If your trip time table is flexible and not at all set in stone then you can work around the deals that you do find. Being able to be flexible is your best chance of getting tickets you can afford.
