A list made by members of a travel site once visited by 23.4 million users in 190 countries, placed the Greek island of Rhodes in the first place among the 25 European destinations.
The top lacks attractions such as London, Vienna, Barcelona and Budapest. However, in the top of preferences are present Prague (place 21), St. Petersburg (place 22), Monte Carlo (place 16), York (site 19), Heidelberg (15), Galway (14) and Rothnenburg (place 17).
Austria has an only destination in this classification, placed by the votes of the visitors to the place 2 on top, Salzburg. Salzburg is the place where the famous composer and musician Mozart saw the daylight, Mozart-Wohnhaus is probably the most visited place related to the musician. The old town is famous for its picturesque alleys, the churches, and its famous castle.
The surrounding landscape is made even better in value, from the heights of the Fortress Hohensalzburg. Mirabell gardens and the Dome are much admired.
Ireland, with Dingle Peninsula, has found a place here on the 6th position. The area is full of old fortifications, even ancient, huge crosses, the most sites being in the western part. The landscapes are also recommended for their beauty. The main attraction in the town of Dingle is a lot of pubs where, besides beer, is very appreciated the music. Gallarus Oratory, a site with an old church over 1,000 years, is another place to see here, and you should not miss the image of Blasket Island.
Many of us have heard of Bruges in the light of the football team pennant of the city, FC Bruges. Bruges is a tourist target to be checked on the map of European tourist attractions. Once arrived in Bruges, you must visit the Holy Blood Basilica, where there is a vial of blood which is said to have belonged to Jesus Christ. Medieval architecture is best represented by the churches.
Another location on the list of “must” is the Onze Lieve Vroukwert, which has a statue of the Virgin and Baby made by Michelangelo. The Diamonds Museum, the channels of Bruges and the chocolate factories complete the picture of the main tourist points. The old town centre is included in the UNESCO heritage.
Many of the destinations chosen by the site which classified the locations are from Italy. Some of them, such as the Venetian lagoon or Vatican – the heart of Catholicism in the middle of Rome, Florence – city of lovers and arts, do not need presentation. To these are added as well the ruins of the fortress Pompeii (Naples) or the Amalfi coast, with the chain of beautiful resorts or with its islands Capri and Ischia.
On the list there are, though, less known destinations such as Siena city, close to Florence. What should be visited here? You can visit the dome in the downtown, Gothic building seen as one of the most beautiful cathedrals of Italy, Piazza del Campo, where you do not know if you are in Venice or in the Vatican. Here are organized horse races twice a year. The city is old and picturesque, the way up here being among olive orchards and plantations of vine.
